The website title is [ Downunder Kayaking -  Kayaking Kiwi Style!  Mark Pinzon and Mac sporting our lovely new Ruffwear Life Jackets (well Mac is anyway!) What's going on at Downunder...  NEW HOURS - WEEKDAYS WE'RE NOW OPEN FROM 9AM    MEET BECCA & NUNZ! Becca Dombrowski and Steve Annunziato (Nunz) are well known local high school teachers at Brian McMahon, and LUCKY US, guides at Downunder Kayaking during the summer months. Becca leads the children's summer program and Nunz leads the corporate programs. Both love guided outings, corporate, birthday parties - you name it, and can't wait to get out on the water.     SUNDAY July 20th, 2-4pmGUIDED PADDLE WITH BECCA Bring the KIDS!!! and relax as Becca shows them a good time. She'll play sponge games, message in a bottle, dock ducking, visit the 'waterfall' and teach them to become gondoliers! If you're lucky, we'll visit the 'Haunted Fisherman' and look for mermaids. KAYAK FOR A CAUSESaturday July 26th 300+ kayakers will paddle across Long Island Sound to raise money for: Save the SoundMaritime AquariumHole in the Wall GangCancercareOutward Bound  This is Downunder's third year proudly participating in and supporting this event. We now have two pod (12 paddlers) the Kiwi's and the Koala's. Each pod sporting their own antipodean clothing and paraphernalia in an effort to stand out from the crowd! Each paddler has to raise a minimum of $750. I would really appreciate your support in this event. To donate (and get tickets to a really amazing post event party!!!)...  What we've been doing at Downunder...   NEWS 12 FILMS GHOSTS AND GHOULS!Sunday July 13th, News 12 came by to film Wendell Livingston and local guide Piper Garner as they launched out of Downunder for the History Paddle. Once a month we join Wendell on the lawn of Pinkney Park to hear some history of the area, and yes - about the ghosts and ghouls renowned to still live here! Enjoying lemonade and cookies, we enjoy stories of bygone days, then put them in perspective from the water, with a paddle from Downunder. This is a wonderful outing for children and adults alike!  $45 single/ $65 double including rental and guided tour. $15 from single goes to RHS and $25 from doubles. $5 discount for seniors, students, and RHS members. Bring your own kayak - $15 donation. For more info on the Rowayton Historical Society. Our next history paddle will be late August.  Email for more info. HAVING FUN WITH KIM!  Photos to follow... in this paddle we did what we do in the children's program as well as team building elements from the adults program. We played sponge games, message in a bottle, dock ducking, some yoga, and became gondoliers! We visited the ' Haunted Fisherman ' and looked for mermaids.  PADDLE & WINE TASTING Another wonderful evening paddle followed by wine tasting with the Rowayton Wine Shop. next event - Thursday August 7th. Reservations are necessary. $20 fee covers tasting, food and guide. Rentals additional.   SAVE THE SOUND - don't buy plastic!!!And donât let your garbage reach the storm drains. Saturday June 28th, Emily Schaller, a representative from Save the Sound, and Kim Beaumont of Downunder Kayaking led a beach cleanup of the Fish Islands. âWe found mainly plastic, which is very concerningâ commented Schaller, âstraws, bottle caps, bottles, bags, balloons, a plant container, cups.â âWhat most people donât realize is that plastic doesn't bio degrade. It photo degrades â breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic particles. Thereâs a vast swath of plastic in the Pacific ocean, estimated to be the size of the US â it continues to grow every year. Plastic is beginning to outnumber life in certain areas, and is entering the food chain of other marine life, which is rather frightening.
