Due to a death in the family the Rowayton Market will be closed on Friday. Given that we are expecting a significant storm, we do not expect to offer kayaking, however unless the weather is dangerous, the store will be open and staff available by phone to take reservations for the long weekend.

Fox News

Thursday August 12th at 10pm Fox News 5 aired a 'Daytrippers' segment on our Moonlight Paddle. See staff Louisa, Piper, Jimmy and Nunz on video, as well as 24 of our clients. Next moonlight paddles are scheduled for Tuesday August 24th and Wednesday August 25th. Rentals of $35 singles, $50 doubles, plus $15 guide fee per person. Recommended as an adult outing for safety reasons - older kids in doubles are feasible. $10 fee for kids under 18. Our boats only - we would rather not have paddlers crossing the channel at night and loading boats in the dark.

Sunset yoga on a Stand-up Paddle Board - click on Patti's picture below to see a video of her in a yoga flow, it'll give you a feel for what our Thursday night classes are like bathed in late afternoon sun. Click on Sarah's picture for a stock video of SUP yoga, haven't caught her on film yet! Sign-up for our SUP Yoga classes with Patti on alternating Thursdays 6pm-7pm, and Sarah alternating Saturdays 9-10am. Both instructors are available for private outings - group or individual - SUP or kayak. Saturday mornings we offer either island yoga (paddle to the islands for a class) or SUP yoga. About us...

Hi, I'm Kim Beaumont, owner of Downunder Kayaking.

Raised in New Zealand, I LOVE the water, and I love having fun. Put them together and you have kayaking! add some people, and you're having a blast!

At Downunder, in true Aussie and Kiwi (New Zealand) fashion, you'll be treated like family. You'll enjoy personalized attention that ensures you get the experience you want. We’ll help you plan your outing based on tides, weather, experience and any special needs – like are you bringing the kids along? We'll throw in some toys to help keep them entertained. Want a guide? We’ll get hold of one for you (they LOVE kids). Want some instruction? We'll teach you the basics on the dock, and if you want more... sign you up for a lesson, or send you out with a guide/instructor. We take pride in educating clients and making sure they are totally comfortable before sending them off on their water adventure. Our job is to make you happy, and we do our job, really well.

About Downunder:

Best of the Gold Coast winners, Downunder Kayaking and the Below Deck surf shop are a local gem and one of those best kept secrets. Tucked away in the seaside village of Rowayton, we're located on a deck right over the Five Mile River, just minutes from Long Island Sound.

Sit on top kayaking is our specialty - it's easy, safe and loads of fun, and more recently Stand-up Paddle boarding (SUP) - in fact in 2010 we'll have 6 boards so we can take you and your friends out. If it’s sit inside kayaks you’re into, we offer instruction and guided outings. The area is diverse, with creeks, coves, and islands within a 1.5 mile radius. 'Anyone can do it' is our motto, and this location really makes it possible.

Kayaking can be really relaxing - even meditative, in fact, we offer yoga classes by kayak (ok so you paddle to an island and have the class there - but you CAN do some on a kayak, and the instructor will gladly demonstrate!) It can also be your workout – you decide, we can show you how to use almost all muscle groups (or the least!)

Our programs really set us apart from other operations - as said, we like to have FUN! Sunset or moonlight paddling, fishing by kayak, paddling and wine tasting (afterwards!), guided trips, educational ones, environmental, kids trips where we share some of the fun things included in our parties and summer program.

That and all the services we offer, like the cafe upstairs, the surf shop, the view and the on-water location. Really, you have to come see it to believe it, and we look forward to seeing you down here!
